Garden-Friendly
A Preferred Perch exclusive blend that won’t grow in your garden or leave any mess behind! This blend of sunflowers, nuts and raisins is one of our top sellers because the birds love it. It can be offered in almost any feeder, keep in mind if the feeding ports are too small the nuts may get stuck.
Zero Waste
Black Oil Sunflower
This is one of the most favoured seeds among wild birds. It attracts the widest variety of species including chickadees, nuthatches, finches and more! It can be offered in almost any feeder but is best suited to a tube or platform feeder. Black sunflower can be used all year to attract the birds of every season.
Wild Bird Mix
This basic mix contains no fillers like wheat, barley, and oats. These grains are commonly used in department store mixes to put weight in the bag but no songbirds will eat them. The absence of these grains makes for a cleaner option as birds will not scatter it and leave uneaten seed on the ground.
Nyjer Seed
This imported seed is THE attraction for many species of finches. In the summer it attracts the popular American Goldfinch. In other seasons, see Pine Siskins, Redpolls, and the occasional Chickadee. Nyjer should only be offered in a finch feeder to avoid attracting House Sparrows and prevent waste.
White Millet
This small seed is suitable for House Sparrows and Doves. During migration you can also attract Harris, Fox, Chipping, and White Throated Sparrows. Juncos love millet spread on the ground when they migrate through spring and fall.
Stripe Sunflower
This larger sunflower is enjoyed most by Blue Jays, Nuthatches, Grosbeaks, and Squirrels. It is best offered on a platform feeder to accommodate the larger species it attracts. It can also be used in a tube feeder as long as it has a tray attached for the larger birds to land on.
Cracked Corn
Cracked Corn is the best food to use for feeding ducks and Geese. In bird feeders it attracts Blue Jays, Doves, and Squirrels. In summer be cautious in using it in feeders as it can attract large flocks of Grackles. In winter, corn is a great choice to use as its high carbohydrate value helps the birds keep warm.
Shelled Peanuts
These high quality peanuts are real treats for Chickadees, Nuthatches, and Woodpeckers. When used in a peanut feeder you can watch the birds longer as they work to chip away at the tasty nuts. This also prevents the birds from taking all the peanuts so quickly.
